Kiran Pahal clocks personal best time of 50.92 seconds to secure berth for Paris Olympics

Date:

The Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula witnessed a remarkable performance by runner Kiran Pahal in the women's 400m event. Fighting against odds, the 24-year-old clocked an impressive timing of 50.92 seconds in the semi-finals to book her place in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

It was hardly over a year ago that Kiran was battling personal issues and injuries which had kept her away from competing. After losing her father who was her biggest motivation two years back, she faced opposition from her family regarding continuing her running career. Her training was also affected due to recurring hamstring problems. Financial struggles added to her difficulties during this challenging phase.

However, the quartermiler did not lose hope and drew inspiration from record holder Hima Das who supported her during the lows. Das not only encouraged Kiran on mental strength but also assisted her financially and with training feedback. Kiran utilised this period to regain full fitness despite constraints.

Her hard work paid off in Panchkula as she breached the 52-second mark with an impressive time of 50.92 seconds, finishing way ahead of the other runners. Still overwhelmed by this unexpected finish below her personal best of 51.84 seconds, Kiran hopes to break the national record in final. Athletics Federation President confirmed her automatic qualification for Paris as per rules based on her timing.

Going through various struggles, Kiran has battled adversity to make her Olympic dream come true. Her remarkable story of resilience and perseverance makes her an inspiration for aspiring athletes.
