Srinagar, Oct 7: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday announced that about 8.55 lakh eligible farmers across the Union Territory will receive direct financial assistance of nearly ₹171 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
The amount will be credited directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts as part of the 21st installment of the scheme, which was released in advance by the Centre.
In a post on X, the LG’s office expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the support extended to J&K’s farming community.
“This financial aid will help our farmers sustain their livelihoods and accelerate recovery to resume agricultural activities,” Sinha said, adding that farmers form the backbone of the economy and are vital to growth across sectors.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to assist those affected by recent floods, describing the Centre’s continued support as crucial to ensuring stability in the region. (Agencies)
