Indore, Oct 25: Two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup were allegedly stalked, and one of them molested, by a man on a motorcycle in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning (Oct 23) in the Khajrana Road area when the players stepped out of their hotel and were walking towards a café. Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said the man followed them on a motorcycle, touched one of the cricketers inappropriately, and then fled.
The players immediately contacted their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local security liaison officers and arranged a vehicle for their safety.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and registered an FIR under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at MIG police station.
A bystander noted the suspect’s motorcycle number, leading to the arrest of 28-year-old Akil Khan on Friday (Oct 24). Police said Khan has prior criminal cases, and an investigation is ongoing. (Agencies)
