14 prominent leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Ashwini Vaishnaw sworn in as new Rajya Sabha members

New Delhi, Apr 4: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar administered oath to 14 prominent leaders who will now serve as members of the upper house of Parliament – the Rajya Sabha. Among those who took oath on April 4th were political veterans Sonia Gandhi and Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Sonia Gandhi, former president of the Indian Congress party, became a Rajya Sabha member for the very first time. She was sworn in representing Rajasthan, with her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra cheering her on. Sonia has had an illustrious career serving the people of for decades and her experience will be invaluable in the Rajya Sabha.

On the other hand, Ashwini Vaishnaw who currently serves as the Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information in the Union Council of Ministers, took oath from Odisha. As a first time parliamentarian himself, Vaishnaw will play a key role in furthering the development agenda of the government through constructive discussions and policymaking in the Upper House.

Some other prominent names who joined the Rajya Sabha include veteran leader and former Union Minister R.P.N. Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Congress leader Ajay Maken from Karnataka and BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya from West Bengal. Leaders from the YSR Congress Party – Gola Babu Rao, Medha Raghunath Reddy and Yerum Venkat Subba Reddy also took oath after winning from Andhra Pradesh. 

All the new members later posed for a group photograph with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, setting the stage for impactful discussions and legislative in the Rajya Sabha. With the induction of these experienced leaders from diverse political backgrounds, citizens look forward to a more productive and progressive session ahead.
