Jammu, Jun 24: Ten alleged drug peddlers, including a Punjab resident, were arrested and a large quantity of heroin seized in separate operations across Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua and Doda districts as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, police said on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson said Gandhi Nagar Police busted a Punjab-based drug network by arresting Gagandeep Singh of Amritsar and his two associates, Damanjot Singh and Vivek Kumar, both residents of Jammu. Police recovered 780 grams of heroin from the trio, who were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In another operation, police arrested Sahil Singh and Kuldeep Kumar in the Miran Sahib area and recovered 17 grams of heroin from their possession. Mohd Sharief was also apprehended with 13 grams of heroin in the Bishnah area on the outskirts of Jammu.
In Udhampur district, Parvaiz Ahmad and Shakeel Ahmad, both residents of Srinagar, were arrested after police recovered 19.47 grams and 18.61 grams of heroin, respectively, during frisking at Phalata and Tikri on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Police also arrested absconding drug peddler Farman Ali from the Marheen area of Kathua district and recovered seven grams of heroin from his possession.
According to the spokesperson, Farman Ali is the fourth accused arrested after police recently busted a Punjab-based drug network allegedly run by his brother, Gulzar Ahmad. The earlier operation had led to the recovery of 369 grams of heroin and Rs one lakh in cash concealed on the premises of a school.
In Doda district, Nimpal Kumar was arrested after police recovered 85 grams of heroin from him during frisking at Chinar Morh.
Police said the operations are part of the intensified crackdown against drug trafficking across the Jammu region. (Agencies)
