Famous filmmaker Anurag Kashyap opens up about past misunderstandings with collaborators
In a recent interview to promote his new film ‘Bad Cop' where he plays the lead role, renowned director Anurag Kashyap spoke at length about some past issues he had with actors he worked with. When asked about accusations of being difficult to work with, Kashyap clarified his stance on the rifts with Abhay Deol and Pankaj Jha.
Regarding his former co-star from ‘Dev D', Abhay Deol, Kashyap said that if he were to disclose the full details of what transpired, it would be too damaging for Deol. He pointed out that he and Deol have not interacted since the filming of ‘Dev D' over a decade ago, and refused to divulge private matters out of respect. However, he hinted that there were underlying factors that Deol may find difficult to face publicly.
On the controversy around replacing actor Pankaj Jha in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur' without notice, Kashyap explained that it was simply a miscommunication years ago. He recalled that Jha had joined the Osho ashram at the time and seemed disinterested in acting. With tight budgets and schedules, Kashyap cast Pankaj Tripathi instead with little time left. Kashyap expressed surprise that Jha is reportedly upset even after so many years without contacting Kashyap to clarify matters.
The filmmaker said he tries to avoid working with people he perceives as problematic, and those accusing him are mostly ones he never collaborated with. Kashyap believes some issues are misconstrued for controversies. Despite facing allegations, he remains focused on his craft and is enjoying exploring acting in addition to direction.
