World Ozone Day celebrated

, Sept 16: The students of GCOE Jammu observed Ozone Day at GHS Satwari, GGHS Bhagwati Nagar and GMS Janipur under the supervision of Dr Rajinder Kour, Dr Jyoti Parihar and Prof Shalini Rana.
The students organized awareness sessions on the importance of protecting ozone layer through presentations, poster making and plantation drive. The school students were also made aware that for the first time it was the United Nations Organization that had proclaimed 16th September as Day for the preservation of ozone layer in 1994.
The respective TP Group students made posters that depicted how UV rays from the Sun are absorbed by ozone layer and how we are saved from serious diseases like skin cancer, cataract and excessive heat. Science students of TP Groups also gave detailed presentation about the sharp rise in depletion of ozone layer. The awareness program was attended by school staff members among others.
Prof Aekta Gupta, Principal of GCOE, Jammu applauded the efforts of the students and asserted that they need to utilize this opportunity for the betterment of society.
The students who gave outstanding presentations were Kokila, Megha, Priya, Diksha, Tamana, Ashia and Barsha.
