Workers, Vendors – the R-Day front row VVIPs!

Date:

Today, India celebrates its 74th Republic Day, which commemorates the birth of the Constitution. As in previous years, the celebrations will include a patriotic display in the form of a spectacular military and cultural parade.

A total of 23 tableaux — 17 from states and union territories and six from various ministries and departments — will be part of the Republic Day 2023 parade on the Kartavya Path, depicting India's vibrant cultural heritage as well as economic and social progress. This year will be dominated by women's empowerment and cultural diversity in Republic Day vignettes

The theme for this year's Kashmir tableau is ‘Naya Jammu and Kashmir,' and it will highlight the region's pilgrimage sites and recreation tourism potential. It will also feature tulip gardens and Kashmiri stags, as well as the holy Amarnath shrine at the back end of the trolley.

– the erstwhile part of now a union territory highlighting through its Republic Day tableau, is its cultural heritage and historic sites.

Its back section features rock-cut Buddha statues based on Gandhara from the 7th century in Kargil. Interestingly, the rock-cut statues in Kargil are the only three of their kind in the world and are of the same genre as the now-demolished Bamiyan Buddha statues in Afghanistan.

Besides this there are few fascinating facts and features about the Republic Day celebrations of 2023:

This will be the first Republic Day celebrations being held on Rajpath since it was renamed ‘Kartavya Path' last year. The 74th Republic Day celebrations are taking place on the revamped Central Vista Avenue, and the government has put 32,000 tickets on sale online for the general public.

For the first time, women from the Border Security Force's (BSF) camel contingent ‘Mahila Praharis' will march in the Republic Day Parade.

Squadron leader Sindhu Reddy will lead the IAF's marching contingent on Kartavya Path in Delhi on Republic Day. Last Republic Day, the IAF won the People's Choice award for Best Marching Contingent in 2022.

On Republic Day, Lt Commander Disha Amrith will lead the Indian Navy's marching contingent of 144 young sailors.

In keeping with the parade's theme of Jan Bhagidari, the first row is reserved for shram yogis (unorganised workers) such as central vista workers, frontline workers, vegetable vendors, and auto drivers rather than VVIPs.

Above all it is significant for this country which suffers from VVIP syndrome that this year central vista workers, frontline workers, vegetable vendors, and auto drivers rather than VVIPs will adore the front row on this great day under Jan Bhagidari. Keep this spirit in all spheres of our life.
