Apple recently showcased some impressive new artificial intelligence capabilities at its WWDC event last month. Dubbed “Apple Intelligence”, these features promise to revolutionize how we interact with our devices through more natural language processing, visual generation tools and other advanced AI-powered functions.
However, not all iPhone models will have access to the full potential of Apple Intelligence. While the latest iOS 18 software update is compatible with over 20 iPhone models, the most promising AI features will initially be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
It is believed the processor and memory requirements of Apple Intelligence necessitate the high-end A16 Bionic chip and minimum 8GB of RAM available in the Pro iPhones. Lower-end iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models missed the hardware mark despite receiving iOS 18.
But what exactly is Apple Intelligence and what can it do? The new suite of AI features leverages on-device processing for enhanced privacy. This includes an improved digital assistant in Siri using more human-like conversational abilities. Photography tools can now generate custom emojis and interpret simple sketches. Text editing applications gain optimized writing recommendations and summaries.
Going forward, all iPhone 16 models launching later this year are expected to satisfy the system specifications for full Apple Intelligence integration. Only the latest iPhone Pro devices currently provide the balanced processing power and resources to run the advanced generative AI techniques behind these new features seamlessly. Remaining iPhone users will have to await more powerful updates to experience the most cutting-edge artificial abilities on their devices.
