Jammu Tawi: Voter’s Corner hosted a successful Voter’s Meet for the Young Lawyers’ Association (YLA) of Jammu today, attended by nearly all members of the association. The meet took place at the Conference Hall of Lawyers’ Chambers Complex, Janipur.
The event was led by HC Jalmeria, Advocate, Convenor of Voter’s Corner, who was assisted by key figures including S. Baldev Singh, Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Monish Chopra, Chairman of the Election-cum-Scrutiny Committee, and other prominent YLA members such as Rohit Sharma, Gagandeep Singh Lucky, and Karanjit Singh.
The meeting featured speeches from candidates contesting for various positions within the YLA. Candidates for the role of President included Amandeep Sharma, Chander Dev Singh Manhas, and Manik Wazir, while those running for Vice-President were Anish Dubey, Bhagirath Singh, Jaskaran Singh, and Rishav Vaid. The positions for General Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer also saw keen competition with candidates Anurag Bakshi, Saksham, Hitesh Koul, Miss Karuna Atri, Qadeer Ahmed, and Sushil Kumar addressing the gathered members.
The Voter’s Meet, a longstanding tradition for over 40 years, allows members to engage with candidates directly, fostering transparency in the election process and promoting democratic values within the legal community. Advocate Jalmeria also raised concerns about the delay in elections for the State Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir, urging immediate action from the concerned authorities. He further called for the swift approval of stipends for young lawyers, which is currently under consideration.
Advocate Rohit Sharma, outgoing President of YLA, delivered the welcome address, while the Vote of Thanks was given by Arjun Singh Pathania, concluding the event on a positive note.
The Voter’s Corner’s initiative is seen as a significant step in enhancing democratic participation and ensuring an informed electorate in the region’s legal community.
