New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said violence in Kashmir, the North-East and Maoist-affected regions has declined by 80% since the abrogation of Article 370, expressing confidence that these areas will soon be free from violence. He was speaking at the 79th Raising Day celebrations of Delhi Police.
Shah said Maoist extremism, once spread across 11 states, had posed a major internal security challenge but sustained efforts have weakened its footprint. He also laid the foundation stone of a Delhi Police Special Cell Integrated Headquarters to strengthen policing in the national capital.
The proposed state-of-the-art complex, estimated to cost ₹345 crore, will house a modern indoor firing range, war room, cyber lab and training facilities, and is expected to become one of India’s most advanced centres to combat terrorism and narcotics trafficking, he said.
The Home Minister also inaugurated the first phase of the Safe City Project and dedicated to citizens an Integrated Command, Control, Communication and Computer Centre built at about ₹857 crore.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said police seized over 6,000 kg of narcotics last year under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and are pursuing 32 fugitives abroad in coordination with central agencies, with two extraditions secured in 2025. He added Delhi Police has become the country’s first force to register suo motu FIRs in cyber fraud cases exceeding ₹1 lakh. (Agencies)
