2 soldiers, a cop injured in Anantnag
Srinagar, Dec 29: One foreigner was among three militants killed in a joint operation with security forces on Wednesday late evening in Mirhama area of Kulgam, while three forces personnel were injured in Anantnag gunfight, police said.
Giving details about the encounter, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said among the three killed, two were local, while the third one was from Pakistan, who belonged to proscribed organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The top cop also revealed that 01 M4 and 02 AK 47 rifles were recovered from the slain.
Earlier, a police official said following the input about the presence of ‘terrorists’ in the area, the joint operation was launched by police, army, and paramilitary forces in Mirhama village, and a suspected spot was tracked down by late Wednesday evening.
Giving details about the encounter, police said, “As our joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. During the gunfight, three terrorists were killed,” officials said.
In a tweet, a Police spokesman said, “Kulgam Encounter Update: 02 more unidentified terrorists killed (Total 03). Search going on. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice, (sic).
The officer said “terrorists were asked to surrender but they did not give up arms and were killed during the day-long operation.” Their identity and affiliation was yet to be ascertained, he said.
Police officials said they were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit and were involved in multiple attacks on security forces.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crimes,” Police said.
While in the second encounter, two Army personnel and a policeman were in an encounter with militants at Nowgam area of Shahabad Dooru in Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.
A police official said following the input about the presence of “terrorists” in the area, a joint operation was launched by police, army, and paramilitary forces, and a suspected spot was tracked down late evening on Wednesday.
“During the initial contact, the hiding militants resorted to indiscriminate firing in which two army personnel and a policeman were injured and they were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital, where their condition is believed to be stable,” he said.
“We have tightened the area and sealed all major roads in the village. In case, if the encounter will be called off following darkness, all SOPs will be followed including the installation of lights. Currently firing from both sides has been stopped,” he said.
