The observance began with the traditional Shabi-e-Zuljinah procession from the residence of Late Haji Rustam Ali Khan, followed by the main Ashura procession from Ziyarat Peer Mitha under the banner of Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu. Mourners from different parts of the Jammu region joined the procession, which passed through its traditional route before culminating at the Karbala Complex on Wazarat Road.

Majlis was addressed by Maulana Munnawar Ali of Hyderabad, who highlighted the teachings of Imam Hussain (A.S.) and the significance of the events of Karbala. He said the message of Karbala inspires people to stand against oppression and injustice while upholding truth and righteousness. He later delivered the Majlis-e-Sham-e-Ghariban at the Karbala Complex.

Another procession, organised by Anjuman-e-Haidery, New Plots, under the patronage of Abdul Sameer Qureshi, joined the main procession at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Peer Mitha.

Speaking to reporters, Anjuman-e-Imamia Jammu President Syed Amanat Shah said Muharram is not only a period of remembrance but also an occasion to reflect on and follow the values of sacrifice, justice and righteousness associated with Karbala. He said the message of Ashura carries universal relevance in promoting truth and resisting oppression.

Secretary of the organisation, Prof. Sujat Khan, described Karbala as “a battle of ideologies rather than individuals” and emphasised the importance of upholding principles over personal interests.

Senior journalist and Advisory Committee member Sohail Kazmi thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the district administration, police and other departments for their cooperation in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the Muharram observances.

Vice President Syed Afaq Hussain Kazmi said the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S.) continues to inspire generations and called for greater awareness of the values associated with Karbala.

Joint Secretary Syed Ayaz Naqvi, while delivering the vote of thanks, appreciated the support extended by various religious and social organisations, volunteers and community groups who established refreshment stalls and assisted mourners during the procession.

He acknowledged the contributions of Anjuman-e-Haidery, Anjuman-e-Hussaini, Kargil Colony Bathindi, the All Ladakh Muslim Students Association Jammu (ALMSAJ), volunteers of Shaheed Muttahiri Library, New Plots, the management of MESWL, and participants from Poonch, Rajouri, Gursai, Surankote, Mandi, Chanderkot and Kashmir for helping maintain discipline throughout the event.
