Gujarat, May 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a scathing attack on Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, declared that terrorism emanating from across the border is no longer a proxy war but a direct and deliberate strategy. He revealed that terrorists killed in the operation were accorded state honours in Pakistan, with their coffins draped in the national flag and saluted by the Pakistani military.
“We can’t call this a proxy war anymore,” said PM Modi. “Those who were killed after May 6 were given state honours in Pakistan. Their coffins bore the Pakistani flag and their military saluted them. This is not a covert operation — it is open warfare, and the response will be proportionate.”
Referring to the partition of India in 1947, PM Modi remarked that Pakistan’s longstanding strategy of using terrorism began at that very moment. He said Pakistan used Mujahideen fighters to annex parts of Kashmir, and blamed the continuation of terror attacks over the past 75 years on historical misjudgments.
“If those Mujahideen had been neutralised in 1947 and if Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s advice had been heeded, the series of terror attacks that has continued for decades might have ended then,” he added. “Even a strong body can suffer if a thorn is lodged in it. That thorn must be removed.”
The Prime Minister also underscored that Pakistan’s repeated military defeats in wars against India have forced it to rely on terrorism. “India has defeated Pakistan militarily three times, and it is now clear they cannot win a conventional war. So they turned to proxy war, attacking wherever they could, while India bore the brunt.”
PM Modi’s remarks come days after Operation Sindoor, a counter-terror offensive conducted by Indian forces, which exposed the depth of Pakistan’s involvement in cross-border terrorism.
