Official sources privy to the development said that the end term of Municipal Committees and Councils vary as there were bi-elections at multiple places as well.

“The authorities have written to the government in this regard and have sought details about the first meetings held after their appointment of elected representatives,” they said.
According to the law, the term of the Municipal Committees and Councils begin from the date of first meeting held by the elected representatives.
Officials said that the five-year term as per the Municipal Act 13 1, begins from the date of the first meeting, which is being held within a month after the appointment of elected representatives.
“The term of almost all the Municipal Committees and Councils are ending by the end of November, but we have sought advice from the legal department about the term of the Committees or Councils where bi-elections were conducted,” they said.
“There is no provision of any extension in their terms, but we have written to the government and it will take a decision soon as the term of almost all the Municipal Committees and Councils are ending by the end of November,” an official said.
However, a source within the department informed that a notification about the end term of the Municipal Committees and Councils is expected to be issued by October 21.
