Tension in Jammu after temple vandalization

Tawi: Tension prevailed in a part of Jammu and Kashmir's winter capital on Tuesday after some Hindu youp two Muslim youth on allegations of vandalizing a local temple and triggered further violence, police said. They broke the glasses, trishul and other sundries.

Police said the incident occurred in Janipur area and the culprits have been arrested. They have been identified as Yasir Khan S/o Khair Din R/o Doda and his brother Tanveer.

Local youths beaten the miscreants whom they blamed for smashing the window panes and doors of a local temple in Janipur area.

“After the news spread in the area, an angry mob held strong protest on Janipur-Roop Nagar road. The mob torched a school vehicle and has now surrounded the local police station amidst high pitch sloganeering” a senior police official said. To control the situation the police also cane charged the protestors to disperse them.

“Senior police officers have reached the spot to bring the situation under control and prevent any flaring up of the trouble by anti-social elements,” the officer added.
