    Taming militants, separatists challenges before JK’s new DGP


    Tawi, January 1 (KIP):- Though S.P.Vaid,who has taken over as
    Director General Police in Jammu and has varied experience in
    handling various matters in the police the situation has undergone a
    major change during the last 27 years. As such the task for the new
    DGP is not an easy one. He has to hold together the police and ensure
    that militants are not able to carry away weapons and ammunition by
    attacking police posts and stations.

    As new DGP he has to infuse confidence among the policemen who
    feel demoralized after the recent five-month long turmoil which
    invited criticism of the police and security forces.

    As an experienced person Vaid is supposed to be aware of militants
    trying to regroup and this regrouping calls for immediate
    multidimensional operations to bring these militants out of their
    hideouts. Secondly, reports indicated that during the last five months
    militants were able to recruit local boys in their outfits and this
    trend has to be stopped. Vaid should have a detailed meeting with the
    Chief Minister and the Union Home secretary so that the employment
    rate was increased so that militants were not able to recruit local
    Shesh Paul Vaid Saturday took over as General of Police (DGP), Jammu
    and Kashmir.
    He succeeded K Rajendra Kumar, who superannuated today.

    Vaid, a 1986 batch IPS officer, was posted as Special DGP
    (Coordination/Law & Order) at Police Headquarters (PHQ). He has also
    served the State in various capacities including ASP Hqrs and SP
    Budgam. SP CID Cell New Delhi, SP City Jammu, AIG Trainings, SSP
    Udhampur, AIG (Personnel), SP & Railways Jammu, ADIG Baramulla,
    Jammu, DIG Srinagar, Crime/Railways, (Administration) PHQ, IGP
    Modernization PHQ, Jammu Zone, Crime & Railways, Traffic, ADGP
    Headquarters and DG Prisons.(KIP)
