The much anticipated sequel to the 2018 horror comedy blockbuster Stree, titled Stree 2, is off to an impressive start with its advance bookings surpassing its competitors released for the Independence Day weekend.
Starring popular on-screen duo Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor reprising their roles, Stree 2 has managed to sell over 100,000 tickets in its first 48 hours of bookings opening. This translates to gross advance sales of Rs. 4 crore for the film ahead of its theatrical release on August 14th.
In comparison, the other two major Bollywood releases for the long weekend – Khel Khel Mein starring Akshay Kumar and John Abraham's Vedaa, have seen fairly lackluster pre-release ticket sales. Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein could only sell around 2,000 tickets in its first day of advance booking. While Vedaa saw around 6,000 tickets being purchased in advance for its opening day collection.
Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share his views on the massive initial response received for Stree 2. He said the strong pre-sales of over 100,000 tickets within the first two days indicates the film is poised for a blockbuster opening weekend collection.
Early projections share that Stree 2 is on track to surpass the lifetime advance bookings of several big-budget 2022 releases like Brahmastra and Tiger 3 in the coming days. Going by the roaring pre-release ticket sales, it seems Stree 2 is all set for a winning run at the box office, reflecting high audience anticipation for the popular horror franchise's follow-up installment.
