It is intriguing that after getting full public mandate to run the Government in J&K, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is now giving alibis for not being able to act as was promised by him during the run up to Assembly Polls.
The status of J&K is same as was before the polls but at that time, the bold face shown by the NC leadership especially CM Omar Abdullah is now slowly losing sheen as taking every little step, the man at the helm of affairs is complaining about powerlessness and lack of authority due to degradation of J&K to the status of a UT.
Contrary to people’s expectation, Omar Abdullah seems to want absolute power while acting as the CM, which is something not possible as of now and as far as present circumstances in J&K are concerned because every time the Prime Minister or the Home Minister have assured to give back status of state to J&K, they have also mentioned that this change will take place at an appropriate time when the atmosphere in the region will become conducive and for the time being anyone well versed with the situation in J&K can tell that still there is lot to do to restore peace and normalcy as remnants of terrorism are still haunting the population.
It is advisable for the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to come out of complaining mode and start working for the people because the opportunity given to him by the population was phenomenal and the people have high hopes from him.
It is imperative that he should not disappoint people by giving excuses of absence of statehood or limited powers rather he should best utilize his existing powers to satiate the aspirations of the people who have given him majority to run the government.
Wasting time seeking the statehood and the full powers will serve no purpose; rather it will affect the efficiency of the incumbent government because things are not clear yet as far as restoration of statehood is concerned because those promising the same have never given the timeline.
