JAMMU TAWI, Apr 15: An Army personnel was injured during a brief exchange of gunfire between terrorists and security forces in the Lasana village of Surankote in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday night, the Army said on Tuesday.
The encounter occurred during a joint search operation by the Army and local police after receiving intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in the area. The injured soldier is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, officials confirmed.
“Contact was established with terrorists during a joint operation with Police at Lasana, Surankote last night. Additional troops have been inducted, and search operations are ongoing to prevent the terrorists from escaping,” the Army’s White Knight Corps posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The search operation was launched as part of ongoing counter-insurgency measures in the region. Surankote, located near the Line of Control (LoC), has seen increased activity in recent months, prompting heightened vigilance from security forces.
As of Tuesday, the area remains cordoned off, and combing operations are underway. Officials have not confirmed the number of terrorists involved or whether there were any casualties on their side.
