Slain Terrorist’s investigation links to JK Civil Secretariat

Date:

, June 19: Investigation into slain terrorist Tanveer's motives has led the security agencies to Jammu Civil Secretariat, the seat of the Government in the state.

In the process, they have identified few Government quarters for the Secretariat employees at Subash Nagar, Jammu among other areas. It has surfaced that one of the Government quarters, bearing number 404 in Subash Nagar under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar Police Station, was supposedly to be used as a major hideout of the militants in order to carry out a fidayeen attack in Jammu city.

It has surfaced that one of the Government quarters, bearing number 404 in Subash Nagar under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar Police Station, was supposedly to be used as a major hideout of the militants in order to carry out a Suicide attack in Jammu city.

The quarter was raided in a joint search operation by the Intelligence sleuths and the police parties of Udhampur and Bakshi Nagar. It was sealed after the investigation where an ATM card was recovered.

Hectic investigations by the State Intelligence agencies and police in order to find out the target of slain militant Tanvir Ahmad Sultan of Bemina, who was killed at the Kud encounter, revealed that the mobile phone used by the militant was active in Jammu for at least three months obtaining signals from a mobile tower around Subash Nagar during last winter, the time when the Civil Secretariat was still in Jammu.

Investigators also established that Tanvir's brother, Khurshid Ahmad is a Civil Secretariat employee and had been allotted Quarter No. 404 at Government Quarters at Subash Nagar. The key that was found in possession of Tanvir managed to open the lock of quarter at Subash Nagar, clearly hinting that Tanvir was in-league with his brother and had been given keys of his official quarter to freely camp there.

Meanwhile, the police are keeping watch on Khurshid but in view of mourning in the family, he hasn't been detained yet.

Reportedly Tanvir had earlier stayed in the official quarter of his brother Khurshid for about three months during winters and was well-versed with the area. As per the authentication by a local, even Khurshid was also staying in the same quarter.

The Government quarter would have become a potential hideout of the militants and could have been used to carry out terror attack in Jammu had the terrorist not been gunned down in Kud.

Also, Tanvir's involvement is suspected in the killing of a police constable at Tengpora, Srinagar since the weapon snatched from the cop after the killing was similar to one that Tanvir used in firing at Kud.
