Jammu Tawi, Jul 31: Describing the prevailing situation in Kashmir as highly volatile and dangerous, Convener of Jammu for India (JFI) Prof Hari Om on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene to retrieve the fast-deteriorating situation.
“The situation in Kashmir is very alarming and frightening. The central intervention in the sensitive and terror-infested J&K has become absolutely imperative. Not to intervene in Kashmir at this very critical juncture would be only to help Pakistan and its Kashmir-based agents to further aggravate the situation and create for the Indian nation a difficult situation,” said Prof Hari Om, adding that it was also necessary to rein in BJP Ministers in J&K, who have been making statements which instead of raising the morale of our security forces have only lowered their morale at a time when the situation in Kashmir is war-like.
Prof Hari Om said the constitutional machinery in the state has completely broken down and a sense of an extreme form of insecurity has gripped the people of the state. “The minorities in the state, who constitute more than 40 per cent of the state's population, had never felt so insecure, threatened and abandoned as they have been feeling under the present PDP-BJP regime,” he asserted. He added the central intervention would, on the one hand, enable our security forces to launch anti-insurgency operations in a most effective manner as there would be no political interference then and, on the other, instill a sense of confidence among the minority communities in the state. Strengthening of the nationalist constituency in the state is a must to defeat the evil game plan of Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists, said Prof Hari Om.
The JFI convener also took the opportunity to tear into former interlocutors Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar and dismissed their solutions to the so-called Kashmir problem as highly divisive, unsettling, communally-motivated and utterly unacceptable. He lambasted Radha Kumar all the more for her sinister statement that the political aspirations of the people of the state range from “Azaadi to “autonomy”.
“The people of Jammu province and Ladakh region and internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus and refugees from Pakistan and POJK have never supported such perverted solutions. Contrarily, their watchword all through was, and continues to be, the state's complete merger into India and application of the Indian Constitution to the state in full, barring those Articles which hold the state aloof from the national mainstream, deprive the people of J&K of their fundamental rights and create a high wall between people of J&K and the rest of the Indians,” said Prof Hari Om.
Prof Hari Om said the only way to tackle the prevailing situation in Kashmir is invocation of section 92 of the J&K Constitution and bringing the state under the Governor rule. J&K at the point in time need a person like Maj Gen (Retd) GD Bakshi or former DGP of Punjab KPS Gill.
