Shreya clinches Fencing gold in KIYG

, Feb 07: Ace fencer from Jammu and Kashmir, Shreya Gupta held the UT flag high by winning Gold in the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) hosted by Madhya Pardesh.

Introduced for the first time in the KIYG, in the individual Sabre Women Fencing competition, Shreya gave an excellent display of fencing defeating Abi Laishrma of Manipur (15-14) in a breath taking final.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Shreya defeated Pragya of Haryana 15-11 and trounced Jeferlin 15-03 in the quarterfinal encounter.

Important to mention here that Shreya recently attended a three months sponsored specialised training camp by the Government of India in Budapest, Hungary.

She has already won two medals, a bronze in Games and two Gold and two Silver medals in National Championships last year alone, a handout issued by the J&K Amateur Fencing Association (JKFA) informed.

The J&K Fencing team is being accompanied by J&K Council coaches, Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal.

Meanwhile, president of the Association, MJ Sharma congratulated Shreya Gupta for bringing laurels to J&K and hoped she will keep this tempo of giving dedicated performance and winning medals in future also.
