Shaktikant Das new RBI Governor

New Delhi, Dec 11

Former finance secretary Shaktikanta Das – the man who played a key role in the 2016 demonetisation drive – is the new governor of Reserve Bank of .
The development comes a day after Urjit Patel resigned as central bank governor. Although he cited personal reasons for his decision, there are talks that it could be because of the growing rift between the RBI and the ruling BJP government over policy decisions.
He was appointed India's Sherpa in November 2017. That term there ends on December 31.
Das is 1980-batch Tamil Nadu-cadre IAS officer and is currently the member of 15th Finance Commission led by former bureaucrat NK Singh.
Das, who retired as Economic Affairs Secretary in May 2017, has been appointed for a term of three years. -Xxxxxxxxxx
