Separatists funded by hawala, other channels in J&K: CM

SRINAGAR: Separatists in and are receiving foreign funds through various channels, including Hawala, to spread militant activities in the state, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds Home portfolio, informed the Legislative Assembly today.

Ms Mufti said as per reports, foreign funds are being routed through various channels, including Hawan and Foreign Indian Currency Network (FICN), to spread militancy in the State.
During the past three years since 2013, security forces have arrested 37 persons and recovered more than Rs 35.70 lakhs, 900 US dollars and 33 Gold coins, the reply by Ms Mufti said.
However, the reply said that there is no report about the particulars of identified separatist leaders found receiving hawala money in the recent past.
As many as 259 militants, including 13 foreigners have been arrested besides war like stores were recovered during the same period in the state. The reply said in 2013, eight cases were registered and 17 persons were arrested besides an amount of Rs 1,249,000 was recovered. However, challan in only three cases have been produced so far.
In the year 2014, five cases were registered and nine persons were arrested. An amount of Rs 2,38,000 besides 900 US dollars have also been recovered. However, no challan has been produced against the accused so far.
Similarly, in the year 2015, three cases were registered and eight persons were arrested. Rs 20,93, 260 besides 33 Gold Coins were recovered during the year but no challan has been filed.
The reply said during this year upto May 12, 2016 only one case has been registered and three persons have been arrested. Rs 90,000 has also been recovered.
The chief minister in the written reply said that during this year upto May 12, four cases related to forged or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes were registered and seven persons were arrested. One case has been challaned and Rs 63,100 recovered.
The reply said that during the year from 2013 to 2015, 53 cases were registered and 109 persons were arrested. Rs 50,52,000 lakh had also been recovered and chllan in 26 cases have been produced in the court of law. As many as 248 cases related to narcotics drugs have been registered this year and 315 persons were arrested and challan against 115 persons have been produced in the courts.
During the year the number of cases registered was 386, arrests 574 and challaned 364 , 2014 400 cases, 553 arrests and 255 challaned and 540 cases registered, 755 arrested and 393 challaned during 2015.
She said during this year, security forces and police arrested 36 militants, including two foreigners while during 2013 (86 militants), including five foreigners, in 2014, (70), including 2 foreigners and 67 militants, including 4 foreigner in 2015.
Large cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the militants, the reply said. (AGENCIES)
