New Delhi, Jun 27: Intelligence agencies have issued a security alert for Delhi and Uttarakhand following inputs about a suspected terror threat from Khalistani extremists, prompting heightened security measures across both regions, sources said.
According to intelligence sources, the alert warns of possible attacks on temples, government establishments, railway stations and police installations. The threat was reportedly conveyed through an email that mentioned several religious places, government offices and political leaders as potential targets.
Following the alert, the Delhi Police, Uttarakhand Police and intelligence agencies have intensified security at sensitive locations and placed personnel on heightened vigil as a precautionary measure. Delhi Police has also launched an investigation to verify the authenticity of the email and trace its origin, sources added.
Officials recalled that similar intelligence alerts were issued ahead of Republic Day in January over possible threats from proscribed Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh-based terror groups, and again in February following inputs about a possible terror strike near the Red Fort and the Chandni Chowk area.
According to intelligence sources, key religious sites around the Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk had remained under threat from Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). (Agencies)
