New Delhi, Mar 21: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made significant changes to its leadership structure following its loss in the Delhi Assembly elections last month. Former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has been appointed as the new president of the Delhi unit, replacing Gopal Rai. Meanwhile, Mehraj Malik has been named the new chief of the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit.
The reshuffle was announced after a meeting of AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) at the residence of party supremo Arvind Kejriwal. As part of the organizational changes, Rai will now take charge of the Gujarat unit, where the party is aiming to expand its presence. Sisodia will oversee the Punjab unit, the only state where AAP is currently in power.
Additionally, AAP general secretary Sandeep Pathak, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, has been appointed in charge of the party’s Chhattisgarh unit, while Pankaj Gupta will lead the Goa chapter.
The meeting also touched on the “unfulfilled” promises made by the BJP in Delhi, such as monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 and free LPG cylinders for women, with Pathak highlighting the party’s commitment to hold the BJP accountable for these pledges.
