Sarfaraz Khan takes fitness and skills to next level ahead of domestic season

    Date:

The domestic season is approaching and talented Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation. Having made his Test debut for earlier this year, Sarfaraz is now utilizing the upcoming domestic tournaments to further stake his claim for a regular middle order spot in the Test side.

Team management had emphasized on improving his fitness following the England series. Sarfaraz took their feedback seriously and engaged in rigorous training during the off-season. He would wake up as early as 4:30am everyday to start with long distance running sessions. This intense fitness regimen helped Sarfaraz immensely as he was able to cut his 5km timing from over 30 minutes to under 30 minutes.

In addition to focusing on fitness, Sarfaraz also ensured he spent adequate time on honing his skills during the nets. He was seen having extensive batting practice against both spin and pace bowling in the lead up to the upcoming domestic games. Sarfaraz rightly understands that scoring runs consistently at the domestic level will keep his name in contention.

His preparedness was on full display during his first competitive match since the England series. Playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament, Sarfaraz looked in excellent touch and shape. He drove, cut and pulled the ball strongly and also showed proficiency against spin through his sweep shots.

Sarfaraz is aware he still needs to prove himself further given the quality of competition. However, he remains unfazed by the challenges and continues to stick to his process of putting in the hard yards. With his renewed commitment towards fitness andskills development, Sarfaraz Khan will be hoping to make most of the upcoming domestic fixtures and solidify his place in the Indian Test batting order.
