    Safety before sentiments

The decision taken by the District Administration Kishtwar to suspend both the Shri Machail Mata Yatra 2026 and Shri Mindhal Mata Yatra 2026 for the day in view of adverse weather conditions prevailing across the district deserves full public support and praise because safety of the pilgrims is of paramount importance. In today’s world, weather forecasting technology has become precisely perfect and it has become possible to predict severe weather events on real time basis. For sure, the administration of the aforementioned district had received the advanced report of the weather not behaving in the coming days and the decision of suspending these yatras must have been taken only after thorough deliberations.

It is pertinent to mention that last year much damage was caused by the cloudburst incidents in Kishtwar and along Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave shrine track. It is good that the government has learned the lessons from the previous year’s bad experience. The decision by the district administration is prudent and pragmatic because allowing devotees to track despite knowing about the upcoming severe climatic conditions can invite trouble risking lives and property of the pilgrims. There is nothing more important than safety of human lives and therefore criticizing the decision of the Kishtwar Administration would account to injustice because on the contrary this decision deserves appreciation. Any person with a stable mindset will agree that safety must always take precedence over all other considerations.

A daylong suspension of these yatras reflects the government’s responsible approach ensuring safety of devotees. Nobody should view such curbs as restrictions on faith because these are necessary steps to protect lives. Reportedly, the advisory issued by the district administration Kishtwar stated that the decision was taken due to dangers associated with the vagaries of weather which were predicted by the concerned department. It is therefore advisable for the pilgrims to remain at their safe locations until the local administration allows them to proceed for the pilgrimage. The people should understand the simple logic that their faith will not get affected by the unavoidable delay but any decision taken in hurry and in contradiction to the precautions can prove detrimental. It is therefore advisable for one and all to follow the guidelines and stay safe.

What is to be considered right now is that the decision of the government is simply to protect human lives and the people especially those who embark on pilgrimages quite often should make it a point to follow all the advisories issued by the concerned authorities religiously as this important for making yatras to shrines safer and convenient.
