Jammu Tawi: Sadguru Shri Madhuparamhans Ji Maharaj captivated a large gathering of devotees with his insightful discourses at Rakhbandhu, Jammu, today. In his address, the revered spiritual leader emphasized the contemporary obsession with money and fame, stating that these desires have led to the creation of various sects and religions. He explained that many religious leaders and sects focus on material gains, as opposed to the true essence of devotion and selflessness.
Sadguru Ji highlighted the contrast between the lifestyles of true spiritual leaders and those who seek wealth and status. “If you look at the leaders of devotion, their lifestyle is often regal, but this is not the lifestyle of a saint,” he remarked. He pointed to the example of Kabir Sahib, who, despite having followers like Raj Bir Singh Baghel, never resided in palaces or lived a life of luxury. Instead, Kabir Sahib’s life was an embodiment of simplicity and renunciation, which is the true essence of spiritual living.
The Sadguru also discussed how people today have blind faith in superficial practices. “Today, people are tying red threads on trees and applying tilaks, thinking this will bring them blessings. This is not true devotion,” he said, emphasizing the importance of genuine faith and spiritual practice over rituals devoid of understanding.
He expressed concern over how many people are running their own sects, using the words of great saints like Kabir for personal gain. “Sahib had already said that followers should take his name and follow the path, but today, many take his teachings and create their own sects, putting their own stamp on it,” he added. He also reminded the devotees that the true way to follow Kabir’s path is to adopt his teachings without altering their essence.
In a thought-provoking quote, Sadguru Ji shared wisdom from the ancient philosopher Socrates: “Don’t go in the direction where a huge crowd is running. Go in the direction from where the world stops you.” He urged the devotees to seek the truth for themselves and not follow the masses blindly.
Touching on the nature of human behavior, Sadguru Ji pointed out the paradox of how some people, even after being proven guilty, continue to be supported by their followers. “Why is this so? Because it’s a big business. Some criminals even run their networks from jail,” he observed, highlighting the corrupt nature of certain sects and practices.
The Sadguru also expressed appreciation for his critics, acknowledging their role in his journey. “My critics did a lot of work for me. They publicized me in ways that my own people could not,” he said. He encouraged his followers not to fear criticism, as it is an essential part of spreading truth. “A critic can be your propagator without taking money. Saints have always praised their critics for their role in spreading their message,” he added.
In closing, Sadguru Shri Madhuparamhans Ji Maharaj reiterated that a true great man’s focus is not on money or fame but on the welfare of the world. His teachings continue to inspire people to pursue a life of simplicity, selflessness, and true devotion.
