    Rescue ops continue in flood-hit Uttarkashi, over 400 pilgrims evacuated safely

     

    Uttarkashi:  On the third day of rescue operations in flood-affected Uttarkashi, authorities have successfully evacuated over 400 pilgrims from the Gangotri region and nearby areas, with efforts still underway to relocate the remaining stranded individuals.

    According to Secretary, Disaster Management, 274 people have been safely moved from Gangotri to Harshil, including pilgrims from multiple states:

    Gujarat – 131, Maharashtra – 123, Madhya Pradesh – 21, Uttar Pradesh – 12, Delhi – 7

    Rajasthan – 6, Assam – 5, Karnataka – 5, Telangana – 3, Punjab – 1. Of these, 135 individuals have already been further evacuated — 100 to Uttarkashi and 35 to Dehradun. The remaining 274 people are currently in Harshil, safe and awaiting transportation.

    The State Government, in coordination with the District Administration, Disaster Management Department, ITBP, NDRF, and other rescue agencies, continues its intensive relief and rescue efforts in the aftermath of flash floods and landslides in Dharali.

    Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a hands-on approach, holding review meetings with NDRF and ITBP officials at his Uttarkashi camp office and personally visiting affected areas to monitor the situation. He assured all possible assistance to the affected pilgrims and residents.

    Rescue operations remain in full swing as officials aim to complete evacuations and restore normalcy in the disaster-hit region.
