Rates of dry fruits drop; production increased

SRINAGAR: The rates of Walnut and Almonds had witnessed drop though the production and revenue earned from export has recorded increase as compared to last.

This information was given in the Legislative Council today in reply to a question by Dr Bashir Ahmad Varri  by Minister Incharge Horticulture in the Legislative Council here today.

The reply said that during the 2013-14 the production of the dry fruit was 20.74 lakh metric tonnes (LMTs)  while a revenue of Rs 5000 crore has been earned from exports.

But during 2014-15 the production was 16.78 LMTs, a drop of 3.96 LTMs, the reply said adding the revenue also witnessed a drop of 500 crores against previous year. Devastating flood hit the valley during 2014 September.

However, during the year 2015-16 the production of dry fruit was 19.66 LMTs. The minister said that rates however, witnessed a drop at all four markets of Narwal, , Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi.

The rate of Walnut Kagzi per kg at Narwal was Rs 300 to Rs 350, Banglore Rs 450 to 500, Hyderabad Rs 400 to 550 and Delhi Rs 500 to Rs 650 during the year 2013-14 and 2014-15. However, the rate witnessed a drop and was Rs 275-300 at Narwal, Bangalore Rs 400 to 450, Hyderabad Rs 350-450 and Delhi Rs 450-500.

Walnut Kernels rate during 2013-14 and 2014-15 was Rs 600 to 650 at Narwal, Rs 1100 to 1150 at Bangalore, Rs 1000 to 1050 at Hyderabad and Rs 1050 to 1450. However, the rates witnessed drop and were Rs 500 to 550 at Narwal, Bangalore Rs 900 to 1050, Hyderabad Rs 900 to 1000 and Delhi Rs 950 to 1025.

The rate of one kg Almond Kagzi was Rs 350 to 400 at Narwal, Rs 350 to 400 at Bangalore, Rs 325 to 375 at Hyderabad and Rs 350 to 400 at Delhi during 2013-14 and 2014-15. The rates during 2015-16 were Rs 350 to 400  at Narwal, Rs 300 to 400 at Bangalore, Rs 350 to 400 at Hyderabad and Rs 375 to 450 at Delhi during 2015-16.
