Property worth ₹2.22 Cr attached in fraud case

Jammu Tawi: In a significant legal action, the Hon’ble Court in Jammu has ordered the attachment of property valued at ₹2.22 crores under the BNSS Act in connection with a fraud case. The property, located in the Channi Bija area, was purchased by Harpreet Singh, who posed as a Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army to deceive individuals by offering jobs in the MES, MOD, and DRDO.

The fraud came to light when Arun Sharma filed a complaint on 6th November 2024, accusing Harpreet Singh of defrauding him and several others out of large sums of money. Singh allegedly received ₹2.39 crores from the victims, with a portion of this amount being used to purchase the attached property. The money used for the property purchase was determined to be proceeds of the crime.

The case was registered as FIR No. 293/2024 at Police Station Nagrota, and the accused was arrested on 7th November 2024. Investigators found that Singh had transferred the illicit funds into his bank accounts and used them to acquire the property, a duplex building constructed on eight marlas of land.

The District Police Officer, Jammu, approved the application for attachment of the property, which was executed following the court’s order on 18th January 2025. The Hon’ble Court has given the accused 14 days to justify the ownership of the property. If he fails to do so, the property will be auctioned, and the proceeds will be distributed among the victims.

The investigation was led by Inspector Parvez Sajad, SHO PS Nagrota, under the supervision of Dy. SP Vinod Kundal, with legal assistance from Sr. PO Altaf Wahid of DPO Jammu.
