    Police crack inter-state gold fraud; accused arrested

    Jammu Tawi, July 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked an inter-state gold fraud and arrested one person in Majalta area of Udhampur district, an officer said today.

    The officer said a complaint was received from one Bandana Rajput of Majalta, alleging that an unknown person posing as a gas stove repairman duped her by offering to clean gold ornaments using chemicals, causing loss in weight.

    Police said a case was registered at Police Station Majalta and investigation was taken up.

    During the course of the probe, the police team led by Station House Officer, Majalta, Sohan Singh, arrested the accused Subodh Sah of Bhagalpur district in Bihar within 24 hours.

    Investigation revealed his modus operandi involved extracting gold content by dissolving it chemically while pretending to clean it causing loss in weight and secretly extracting the dissolved gold for himself, said police.

    They further added that he is suspected to be part of an inter-state gang while further investigation is underway.

    Udhampur Police has advised the general public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
