Police arrests member of Shallu group involved in shootout

Date:

Tawi, Apr 5: Jammu and Police have arrested another member of the Shallu group of gangsters who were behind the fatal attack on Police Sub Inspector Deepak Sharma outside Government Medical College Kathua a few days ago.

The gangster has been arrested from neighbouring where he had fled after the shootout.

Two members of the gang had fled from the area after their leader Vasudev Sharma was killed by the police and when PSI Deepak Sharma received bullet injury in his head.

Sources said that two locals had helped a few other members of the gang to flee from the spot and enter the neighbouring state of Punjab. “Both the locals also left Kathua and reached Punjab in search of a safe zone. Sensing a tough time for them after they helped other members of the gang to leave without getting caught, they managed to give police a slip and reach Punjab,” said a source.

“But Jammu and Kashmir police went after them and continued to track their movement. Today one of them was nabbed by Kathua police and has been brought back to J&K,” he added.

Director General of Police J&K R.R. Swain had said that police are after them and will not let the sacrifice of Deepak Sharma go in vain.
