Jammu Tawi: With an objective to contribute in preserving and promoting the environment in participatory mode, Army Public School Damana with active collaboration from Social Forestry Department and Samiksha, the Society for Promotion of Inclusive and Sustainable Development, headed by Ajay Khajuria, today organized a Plantation Drive in the school campus.
The occasion was garnered by many dignitaries. The chief guest on the occasion was Suraj Prakash Padha, Councillor, Jammu Muncipal Corporation.
Other dignitaries included Jagmohan Sharma, Chairman Power Distribution, Sewa Das, Retd. Director General, Geological Survey of India, Madan Lal Retd Asstt. RTO, Matinder Singh Retd District Agriculture Officer, Kulbhushan Sharma, Retd Asstt Director Planning, C M Sharma, Secretary Samiksha. The drive was conducted with planting material and support from Social Forestry Department and in consultation with Ram Rattan Manhas, Range Officer, Forest Department who was personally present on the occasion.
The aim of the programme was to propagate a message for masses about the healthy
environment and to realize that the present generation has the responsibility to act as a trustee of the rich natural wealth for the future generations. The issue to address is not merely about the climate change but about the climate justice.
Around 90 plant saplings of Amaltas and Gulmohar were planted during this drive.
Pushpinder Kaur, Principal APS Damana holds that this plantation stands with its focus
on sustaining the plants; to foster a culture of responsibility towards nature among students. She assured that these saplings will surely be taken care of thereafter. The drive witnessed participation of CCA I/Cs, Sports Dept, Examination Dept and Art and Craft Dept of the school.
