Srinagar: As many of the ruling PDP leaders and scores of workers have resigned for the last over two months, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has convened an emergency legislative party meeting on Thursday.

The meeting according to sources will be held at Mehbooba's Fairview residence on Gupkar.

“The meeting has been convened to discuss the recent developments in the party especially after its senior leader Tariq Hamid Karra and Nisar Ahmad Mandoo, Senior Vice President, District Srinagar, of the PDP resigned,” a party insider said. “The meeting will likely discuss the fallout of the resignation of Tariq Hameed Karra, on the party in the Valley.”

All the party's legislators and ministers have been called to attend the meeting scheduled on Thursday at Fairview Residence at Gupkar, sources said.

“The functioning of the government and the development works that have been hit in the Valley and in the state due to the prevailing situation will also be discussed,” sources said.

In view of the prevailing situation in , many mainstream party workers,  Panchs' and Sarpanches have resigned in the Valley fearing threat to their lives.

For the past two weeks, scores of party workers of the PDP in the Valley have resigned in view of the  threat from various sides amid the ongoing unrest in the Valley and blaming the party for failing in dealing with the situation.

Reminiscent of the 1990s, when almost all political activists across the Valley's political spectrum resorted to the same tactics, these resignations have now come from north, central to south Kashmir where these workers claim they dissociate with the mainstream parties and have no affiliation with them.

Similarly, atleast dozens of 20 Panches Sarpanchs have resigned in parts of the Valley.' They were affiliated with the PDP, Conference and Congress.
