Pat for India at Quad

Date:

USA President Joe Biden unequivocally praised 's efforts in it fight against the Covid-19 pandemic under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He lauded Prime Minister Modi's handling of Covid as he drew parallels between ‘India's success and China's failure' during a closed session of the Quad Leaders' Summit in Tokyo on Tuesday.

These accolades from the 's top leaders are a shot in the arms of India's Prime Minister, who has been often criticised at home especially by the opposition and leftists for his bold initiatives that has so far enhanced the image of India internationally. It is a matter of appreciation that India's neutral foreign policy, diplomatic initiatives and extending helping hand to the needy and poor nations may it be medicines, Covid Vaccines and food has created tremendous goodwill world over.

Biden, according to a senior official, compared India's accomplishment to China's failure to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak, despite the fact that both countries are similar in size.

Biden added that PM Modi's success has demonstrated to the world that democracies can deliver, debunking the “myth that autocracies like China and Russia can handle the rapidly changing world better because their leadership can take and implement decisions without going through lengthy democratic processes.”

Interestingly, President Biden's statements appeared to be spontaneous and unscripted, as he made a special intervention before delivering his planned formal remarks that the world witnessed.

PM Modi met with US President Joe Biden today after the Quad Leaders' Summit. The meeting is the continuation of their ongoing conversation, which began on April 11 in virtual mode.

The Quad Summit provided the Leaders with an opportunity to discuss developments in the Indo-Pacific region along with current global topics of mutual relevance. A new programme for continuing collaboration in the marine domain, space, climate change, , and cyber security was launched during the Quad summit.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also appreciated India's contribution and recalled that Indian-made vaccines delivered under the Quad Vaccine Initiative were received with gratitude in Thailand and Cambodia recently. He also noted that in Cambodia, PM Hun Sen himself attended the handing-over ceremony.

Australia's newly-elected Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said vaccines supplied by India to other countries have made a difference on the ground, and such success is more valuable than just winning a theoretical debate of ideas.

Notwithstanding the World Health Organisation's controversial claims over death counts in India that seems more relying on the sources hostile to present regime, the open appreciation of India's performance in handling the worst human turmoil due to Coronavirus at the highest political and diplomatic level is worth satisfying for the people of India
