New Delhi, Jul 1: The Monsoon session of Parliament is likely to commence on July 20 and continue for about three weeks, though the final schedule is yet to be approved by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), officials said on Tuesday.
The session is expected to be shorter than the usual Monsoon and Winter sittings, which generally comprise around 20 sittings spread over four weeks. However, shorter sessions have been held on previous occasions.
The Monsoon session will be the first after the BJP’s electoral victories in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry and is expected to witness key political developments.
The rebellion within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Shiv Sena (UBT) is also likely to figure during the session. A decision by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on the demand of 20 TMC MPs and six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs seeking recognition as separate groups is still awaited.
In the Rajya Sabha, the numerical strength has further tilted in favour of the ruling NDA following the oath-taking of newly elected and re-elected members. (Agencies)
