New Delhi, July 24: MPs from the INDIA bloc, including senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, staged a protest in the Parliament House complex on Thursday against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, demanding its immediate rollback and a discussion in both houses of Parliament.
The demonstration, held for the third consecutive day, saw leaders from the Congress, DMK, TMC, Samajwadi Party, JMM, RJD, and Left parties gather at the Makar Dwar entrance of Parliament. They carried banners reading “SIR – Loktantra par Vaar” and raised slogans such as “Save democracy” and “Stop vote-bandi.”
Prominent leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, A Raja, Kirti Azad, and Ziaur Rahman Barq joined the protest, accusing the Election Commission of conducting the revision to disenfranchise voters in Bihar ahead of the state assembly polls.
The opposition alleges that the EC’s voter roll revision drive is politically motivated and aimed at manipulating electoral outcomes. They have demanded a parliamentary debate and have vowed to continue pressing the issue until the revision is reversed.
