New Delhi, Oct 7: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday lauded the Indian armed forces for demonstrating strategic foresight and jointness during Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Addressing the faculty and members of the 65th National Defence College course at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Murmu highlighted that the operation, launched on May 7, involved a calibrated tri-service response over four days of intense clashes, culminating in a ceasefire on May 10. She said the synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force was pivotal in dismantling terror networks across the border.
The president emphasized India’s ongoing efforts to transform its armed forces into a technologically advanced, combat-ready force capable of multi-domain integrated operations. She noted the creation of the Department of Military Affairs under the Chief of Defence Staff and ongoing restructuring through Integrated Theatre Commands and Battle Groups.
Murmu also spoke on the philosophical underpinnings of India’s approach to war and peace, citing the Mahabharata and the principle of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam — the world as one family. She stressed that while India values universal peace and brotherhood, it remains resolute in combating threats to national security.
Highlighting the symbolic proximity of Gandhi Smriti and the National Defence College, Murmu noted it reflects India’s integrated approach of combining values of peace with readiness for battle when necessary.
The president concluded by expressing deep appreciation for the leadership and operational excellence of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor. (Agencies)
