SRINAGAR: Conference Working President Omar Abdullah Wednesday took on the PDP for its “failure” to fulfill the promises it had made with the people and asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to resign so that fresh polls are held in the state.

Omar said while addressing party workers at party headquarters in Srinagar, asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti either she should deliver on her promises or break-up alliance with the BJP and let the fresh polls to be held in the state.

“Mehbooba is powerless as the RSS is running the and government from the Nagpur. The PDP-BJP is implementing the RSS agenda in the state,” he said at the function which was organized to felicitate Nasir Aslam Wani for being re-elected provincial president Kashmir.

He said the PDP-BJP alliance was furthering a dangerous and divisive political agenda in J&K that could have far-reaching consequences for the state and its people.

“Her government has strengthened the RSS agenda in the state. Mehbooba Mufti has failed to deliver the promises her party had made with the people. She should resign, break-up alliance with the BJP and let fresh polls to be held in the state. The NC is ready to contest the elections in the state,” he said.

Omar Abdullah said people were facing immense inconvenience due to absence of basic facilities. “There is no ration, electricity, water available in the state. Government has completely failed to provide basic amenities to the people.”

He said during his tenure as chief minister of the state, Mehbooba was often protesting for return of power projects to the state. “Now what happened to the confidence building measures on which the PDP-BJP claimed of having formed the government?”

He accused that PDP-BJP alliance has left no stone unturned to drive a wedge between the Muslims and Hindus in the state and the state government was watching as a mute spectator as “Muslims in Jammu are being harassed by those who are inimical to the State's inclusive and secular fabric”.

He claimed that the PDP-BJP under an agenda want to divide the state and sow seeds of animosity among its various communities and regions but “National Conference will never allow this to happen”.

Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of the function, the NC Working President accused Mehobooba Mufti of using state machinery to win the Anantnag Assembly seat where the by-polls are slated to be held on June 22. “The ration that is meant for entire Kashmir is being diverted to Anantnag Assembly segment. The timber depots are lying empty as same has been supplied to the Anantnag area. Similarly macdamization is only being done in this area for the political benefits,” he said. “She wants to win the elections illegally but we are working hard to win it legally.”

The NC leader said Mehbooba Mufti was “arrogant” by not seeking votes from the people. “She went Anantnag once that too for Beigh Sahab's function. She does not go to the people and seek the votes which shows her arrogance. People should take a note of it. If I would have been an ardent supporter of the PDP, I would have never voted for her. Voters can't be taken forgotten and she should at least seek the votes from the people.”

The NC Working President said Mufti Mohammad Sayeed after winning the elections didn't visit the Anantnag. “But our candidate stayed there as he is native of that place and we hope he will succeed.”

Over the violence that erupted on Tuesday night in Janipur area of Jammu, after an allegedly mentally-disturbed youth vandalised the ancient Aap Shambhu temple in the city, he appealed the people to maintain peace and communal harmony. “We should defeat the elements who want to divide the state. But there is a minister, who has threatened people from a community in Jammu but then said that he had said that mercury would reach 47 degree Celsius in Jammu.”

He asked the government to make adequate arrangements so that such incidents won't repeat in the future.
