Omar Abdullah detained at US airport for twice frisking

New York:  Omar Abdullah shared in tweets on Sunday that he had to spend two hours at the airport after arriving in New York, for “random” secondary security checks.

“Thrice in three visits, the randomness is growing tiresome now,” tweeted the former and Chief Minister, who is in the city to speak at an event.

The 46-year-old politician also referred to movie star Shah Rukh Khan, who had been vocal about his exasperation after being detained at the airport in Los Angeles earlier this year.

Jammu and Kashmir former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was detained at a New York airport on Monday. He was on a US trip to speak at an event organized by the New York University but was detained for two hours for extra immigration checks upon landing. Omar tweeted his rant saying that this is his third visit to the US and this happens every time. After being kept for two hours in the holding area of the airport, he was let go. Tired of their random checks, Omar tweeted how he wished he had stayed at home instead. This isn't the first time that a high-profile Indian has been detained or frisked at US airports. Here are other celebs who've had the same fate in the past.

I just spent TWO hours in a holding area & this happens EVERY time. Unlike @iamsrk I don't even catch Pokemon to pass the time.

In August, the US had apologized to Mr Khan, 50, who had tweeted after yet another detention at a US airport: “Every damn time”.

The actor has been held back at the New York and New Jersey airports before, because a man with the same name is on a US no-fly list of 80,000 people.
