New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has decided not to attend the proceedings of the House on moral grounds until the no-confidence motion notice moved against him by the Opposition is resolved.
The decision comes a day after Opposition parties submitted a notice of no-confidence against Birla to the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha. According to sources in the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the notice will be examined and processed in accordance with established rules.
A total of 118 Opposition MPs have signed the notice, including members from the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, RJD and Left parties. However, MPs of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) did not sign the motion.
Further action on the notice will follow the procedural review by the Secretariat. (Agencies)
