NIA summons Geelani’s son for questioning

    Date:

SRINAGAR: The Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the money trial behind ongoing unrest and agitation in , has summoned the son of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani in Kashmir for questioning.

“Geelani's elder son Dr Naeem Geelani has been issued a notice by NIA to report to their office in Shivpora, Srinagar for questioning,” a spokesman of Hurriyat conference led by Geelani said.

The NIA is probing the money trail behind the ongoing unrest in the Valley. It has approached banks and financial institutions in and Kashmir to assist the agency in preparing a list of people and entities, whose bank accounts have shown “suspicious transactions” after the outbreak of unrest in the Valley on July 9.

The agency is probing whether the ongoing unrest and protests in the Valley triggered by killing of 21-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8 are being funded by militants and Pakistan.

At least 71 people including two policemen have been killed and thousands others injured in ongoing cycle of violence and unrest in last 52 days in the Valley.

Reacting to summoning of Geelani's son by NIA, a Hurriyat spokesman said Geelani and his family is being terrified and maligned in a well knit conspiracy.

“Hurriyat once again reiterates that by doing so, the Indian agencies will never be able to dent the commitment and will of Geelani,” he said.
