Defending champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will represent India in the Paris Olympics scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The superstar athlete who clinched gold for India at Tokyo 2020 is expected to compete on August 6 and 8 as per the schedule.
Chopra is slated to participate in the men’s javelin throw Group A qualifications on August 6 at 1:50 PM local time. The top athletes from Group A and B which commences at 3:20 PM will progress to the finals scheduled two days later on August 8 at 11:55 PM IST.
The venue for all the javelin throw events will be the iconic Stade de France stadium in Saint-Denis. With a capacity of over 80,000, the setting will provide a spectacle for spectators and an intimidating atmosphere for competitors.
Having already created history as independent India’s first gold medallist in athletics, Chopra will carry the hopes of a billion plus supporters when he vies for a repeat performance on the global stage. Since his emphatic victory in Tokyo, the 24-year old has further established himself as the premier javelin thrower with dominant displays in the Diamond League circuit.
