Mumbai thrashes J&K as players fail to show intent, application

NL Corresspondent

Kolkata, Dec 15: Despite the fact that the Women's is on upswing, the players still fail to show intent and application whenever J&K faces stronger, formidable sides, which was again on display when J&K locked horns with strong Mumbai today in Women's U-23 T20 Trophy at Barasat Ground, Kolkata.

Earlier, batting first, J&K managed to score a paltry total of 84 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process. Opening batter Bawandeep Kaur top scored with 24 runs off 30 balls, while consistent Chitra Singh Jamwal contributed unbeaten 22 off 35 balls with one boundary. Shambhavi Rajput who was again promoted to open the innings scored 8 runs in 24 balls, while skipper Rudrakshi Chib contributed 13 off 14 balls and Manya Banotra scored 4 runs off 13 balls.

Lack of intent was simply on display as the team  lost just 4 wickets and scored only 81 runs in the shortest format. Moreover, some batters faced too many balls to score a few runs, which is a point of serious concern.

For Mumbai, Fatima Jaffer was the pick of the bowlers, who took 2 wickets by conceding 16 runs in 4 overs, while Zeal Dmello claimed one wicket.

In reply, Mumbai chased the target easily in 12.2 overs by losing one wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Skipper Riya Chaudhari top scored with unbeaten 46 runs off 34 balls studded with 7 boundaries, while Tushi Shah contributed 36 runs off 38 balls with 5 fours.

Madhu Devi was the only successful bowler for J&K, who took the lone wicket to fall.
