Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a remarkable record on Thursday, becoming the world’s first leader and politician to surpass 100 million followers on Instagram. His following is now so significant that it exceeds the combined total of the next five most-followed global leaders.
PM Modi had primarily used to share scenes of official engagements, international visits, public outreach initiatives, cultural moments, and personal reflections, helping him connect with a wide and diverse audience. Experts say that Prime Minister’s Instagram presence connected strongly with youth, both in India and abroad, reflecting changing modes of political communication in the digital age.
Who All Are There In The List?
The Indian Prime Minister, who joined the platform in 2014, reached this milestone almost 12 years later. For comparison, US President Donald Trump follows with 43.2 million followers, followed by Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy (16.1 million), Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto (15 million), Brazilian President Lula (14.4 million), Turkish President Erdogan (11.6 million), and Argentine President Javier Milei (6.4 million).
PM Modi also remains the most followed politician within India. Following him is Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with approximately 16.1 million followers, while Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi ranks third with nearly 12.6 million.
PM Modi’s Israel Visit
The milestone comes as the Prime Minister concludes a two-day visit to Israel. On Wednesday, he was conferred with the “Speaker of the Knesset Medal”, the Israeli Parliament’s highest honor. The award recognizes his “exceptional contribution through personal leadership” in structuring strategic relations between India and Israel.
