SRINAGAR: Police has been receiving immense pressure in Kashmir valley to bring situation back to the normalcy and has been directed to deal strictly who create law and order problem in the state.
Amid ongoing unrest in Kashmir, scores of youth are on the run as police have identified over 800 youth who have been allegedly part of the stone pelting incidents for the last one month.
Around a 1000 youth have been arrested by the police since July 9 across the Valley for their alleged involvement in stone pelting following the killing of Hizbul Mujahidin Militant ‘commander' along with two of his accomplices in south Kashmir's Kokernag district.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir region, Javaid Mujtaba Gillani in a statement said since July 2016, 3329 personnel from JKP and CRPF have been injured while maintaining law and order in the Valley. Out of these injured personnel many have suffered grievous injuries including multiple fractures.
In all 1018 incidents of violence were reported during this period. 1030 FIRs stands registered in different police stations of the Valley.
There are reports that police have been pressurizing many families to handover their boys who have been allegedly part of stone pelting incidents. Fearing arrest, scores of youths in various areas have left their homes to evade the arrest. Despite that the security forces have not able to bring the situation back to the normalcy. Sources said the security forces have been told to deal with the situation strictly and to take strict against who create law and order problem in the state.
A senior police official said there are 800 to 1000 youth who have been identified by the security agencies and were part of stone pelting. “Besides that hundreds have been arrested since July 9, the day after unrest broke out in the Valley,” the official said. He said most of them have been arrested during the nocturnal raids by the security forces in various parts of the Valley.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Javid Mujtaba Geelani said police have arrested many youth for their involvement in stone pelting during the ongoing crisis in the Valley.
“We have identified some and are in process to identify others through videos and other means who create law and order problem in Kashmir,” the Kashmir police chief said.
Reports said that additional companies of security forces were
being rushed to Kashmir valley for tackling the situation and the only
way left for the police is to keep maximum number of protesters in
jails. And credit should be given to Chief Minister,Mehbooba
Mufti,that she favoured the idea of setting free those arrested during
2010 turmoil on humanitarian grounds.
On Monday, a police spokesperson in a statement said police, across Kashmir valley has established helplines in the police control rooms of the respective districts for the general public who wish to inform regarding the harassment by hooligans, stoppage and disruption of the traffic by miscreants, damage/arson of the traffic by miscreants, damage/arson to the public property or obstacles erected on roads/lanes.
