Srinagar, Oct 14 (KNS): A team of officials of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is likely to visit next week to take assessment of the situation and present detailed report before Government of (GoI).

It is also believed that after going through the report, authorities in Delhi will take call for holding by-elections for Anantnag seat, which fell vacant after Mehbooba Mufti won the assembly elections, this year.

During its visit, according to sources, the team will call on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and other minister. It will also meet various leaders of opposition parties.

The MHA team, as per sources, will also meet Director General of Police J&K, K Rajindra Kumar and other security officials.

“The MHA team will later submit a detailed report to Union Home Minister that will be shared with the top security agencies. Later, the authorities in Delhi will take also a call about holding of by-elections for Anantnag seat.”

Mehbooba Mufti elected to the Lok Sabha from Anantnag Parliament seat in 2014 general elections but returned to the State in April this year to take over as the State's chief minister after her father's demise.

Former PDP senior leader Tariq Hameed Karra also resigned from the Srinagar Parliament seat on September 15, this year

Sources said that the notification for by-elections will be first issued for Anantnag seat.

Pertinently, the upcoming by-election for Anantnag seat will be litmus test for ruling PDP after this district of south Kashmir remained mostly affected during ongoing unrest in the valley.

South Kashmir is stronghold of the ruling PDP in terms of vote bank. (KNS)
